Dangote Fisheries Company Ltd, Chisco Transport, and 91,193 others may soon be permanently delisted from the register of companies by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The CAC revealed this in a public notice issued on Wednesday. “ This is to inform the general public that the commission pursuant to its powers contained in Section 692 (3) (4) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act No. 3 2020, intend to strike off from the register, names of defunct or dormant companies that have not filed annual returns for a period of ten years,” the notice read in part. The agency had given the non-compliant companies 30 days to respond to a strike-off notice. The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced an extension for companies to submit their annual returns, moving the deadline from January 1, 2023, to April 1, 2024.  This decision comes in light of glitches on the company’s registration portal (CRP) and in consideration of the Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME) sector. Recently, CAC released a circular indicating its intention to delist 91,843 companies by month’s end for failing to meet the annual returns submission requirement. However, the commission clarified that penalties are currently suspended for companies falling within the earlier deadline bracket, given the extended submission timeframe until April 1, 2024.
