Anthony Joshua Honors President Tinubu with Autobiographed Glove During Lagos Visit
By Wisdom Darasimi
World-famous boxer Anthony Joshua paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his Lagos residence on Wednesday, presenting the Nigerian leader with a thoughtful gift – an autobiographed boxing glove.
This gesture was revealed by Dada Olusegun, Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, via a post on the platform X. The glove bore a special inscription, reading: “To the Great Asiwaju Borgu of Africa, Bola A Tinubu.”
Joshua’s visit comes shortly after his appointment as Ogun State’s sports ambassador by Governor Dapo Abiodun. The appointment was formalized during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Abeokuta on Monday.
Born to a Nigerian mother and a father of Nigerian and Irish descent, Joshua’s Nigerian heritage traces back to the Yoruba people. This connection has been a recurring theme in the boxer’s career, with his regular affirmations of pride in his roots.
The meeting between Joshua and Tinubu underscores the boxer’s commitment to fostering strong ties with Nigeria and celebrating its leadership. The thoughtful gesture further solidifies his role as not just a sports icon but also an ambassador of Nigerian culture and pride.
